Bio

Art was my calling even as a child! I was born in Spain to a Finnish diplomat family, where my talent and artistic growth were strongly supported. I grew up in Barcelona, so my expression naturally absorbed vibrant influences from Spanish culture.

I returned to Finland with my family at the age of 16 — but only for a short while. After finishing high school and completing my military service, I moved to New York in 1987 to study fine arts at Pratt Institute.

After graduating, I worked for a few years as a freelance illustrator in Helsinki, until I set off on a trek to heal my broken heart by hiking in Chile. I ended up enjoying South America so much that I stayed there for six years!

In Brazil, I was introduced to wood carving — a significant turning point in my artistic career. However, it wasn’t until I returned to Finland that I discovered a technique that allowed for creative wood carving in a way I had never even dreamed of.

In Jurva, master decorative woodcarver Oiva Kentta introduced me to silent carving, through which I learned to bring wood surfaces to life with just a few sharp chisel strokes. By combining painting and other visual art techniques with silent carving, I developed my own artistic style, which I now teach in my creative carving courses.

The theme of the feminine has always fascinated me in art. While femininity initially emerged in my work in a physical form, today the essence of womanhood appears in a more multidimensional and soulful way. My artistic vision is now strongly guided by spirituality and universal love.

My works are intuitive and layered, revealing their dimensions to the viewer gradually. This allows for an art experience that continues to bring joy for a long time.
