My name is Mikki Paajanen — a Spanish-born artist, sculptor, educator, and ambassador of silent carving.
I paint, sculpt, and teach in my studio in Jurva, but I also give courses around Finland by invitation – — and even abroad!
Silent Carving
Jurva, a town in South Ostrobothnia, is renowned for its distinctive woodcarving tradition, where wood is shaped not with mallet strikes but with delicate, knife-sharp chisel strokes.
This 'silent carving style' allows for chisel strokes as precise as the lines of Art Nouveau or Van Gogh's brushstrokes.
Art is for everyone
Whether you're an enthusiast of visual arts or sculpture, a professional in the creative field, or a beginner, come create art! I will guide and mentor you with 24 years of experience, and, if needed, in six different languages. I also offer tailored instruction for groups and official Encounter Art® courses.
Private Classes
Private art lessons can consist of individual sessions or more comprehensive courses. You choose the technique and material: drawing, painting, wood carving, or a combination of them. You name it!
Group Classes
Diverse, tailored art instruction for groups can be held in my studio at Art House Jurva or at the client's own premises. The content, duration, and technique of the courses can be adapted to the age and skill level of the group being guided.
Encounter Art®
Encounter Art® is group-based visual art work that supports well-being, as well as functional and work capacity. The focus of Encounter Art is on rehabilitative and preventive activities, so no prior visual art knowledge is required.
Creative Consulting
Do you need ideas or tools for creative activities in businesses, projects, or other community work? Creative mentoring can be provided through participatory workshops, lectures, or one-on-one guidance.
I create unique paintings, sculptures, and reliefs to order for homes and public spaces. The collection also includes many finished works. You can explore my artworks on my gallery site or in my studio at Jurva Art House!
